Keramim ( Hebrew כְּרָמִים, German: Weinberge) is a kibbutz in Israel .
location
The almost ten square kilometers extensive area is located about 15 kilometers north of Be'er Scheva on the edge of the Negev desert on a hill at 440 meters above sea level. It is one kilometer off the road from Beersheba to Hebron and Jerusalem at the level of the village of Meitar . The border with the West Bank is in the immediate vicinity , which is why the safety of the residents plays a special role.
facts and figures
Keramim was founded in 1981 by the Urban Hashomer Hatzair Group and had around 75 members, which is why it often referred to itself as the “smallest kibbutz in Israel”. In 2018 the kibbutz had 485 inhabitants. Keramim is the plural of the Hebrew term for vineyard .
Life
Today viticulture, a poultry farm, a guest house, catering service and a joint restaurant operation with the neighboring kibbutz Lahav represent the most important sources of income. All facilities except the restaurant are located on the kibbutz grounds. The restaurant is three kilometers south of the Schoket Junction , the intersection of the main roads from Beersheba to Hebron (in north-south direction) and from Lehawim to Arad (in east-west direction).
The center of Keramim is a two-story building in which the dining room and the associated kitchen as well as a common room are housed. A small grocery and drug store opens twice a week for essentials. There are also three leisure facilities: a horse stable with riding arenas, a soccer field and a paintball facility.
