Arad ( Hebrew ערד, Arabic عراض) is a city in Israel . It is located about 25 kilometers west of the Dead Sea and 45 kilometers east of Beer Sheva .

The name Arad comes from the Judean fortress of the same name (see Tel Arad ) and is mentioned in the Bible (e.g. in the Book of Judges, Ri 1,16  EU ).

Arad is located on the Israel National Trail , a long- distance hiking trail that is over 1000 kilometers long and runs through Israel from north to south.

history

Arad was in 1962 founded by a group of young Israelis, most of whom are former kibbutz - or moshav -Bewohner were who were looking for housing in a secluded environment. Arad is best known for its clean air among asthma patients.

In June 1965 Arad was given the status of its own local government and on May 29, 1995 that of a city ​​council .

The bohemian district of Eshet Lot

The artists' quarter Eshet Lot is a neighborhood with its own brand of desert atmosphere, in the heart of the industrial zone, it is a combination of creativity and artistry.
