Kerime Nadir

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kerime Nadir (born February 5, 1917 in Istanbul as Kerime Nadir Azrak , † March 20, 1984 ibid) was a Turkish writer of modern Turkish literature . Most of her romance novels were filmed in Turkey, particularly in the 1960s and 1970s.

Life

Kerime Nadir was the daughter of the tax officer Nadir Azrak and granddaughter of Yahya Reşit Efendi, a Hattat from Şebinkarahisar and Kadi in Egypt, which at that time formally belonged to the Ottoman Empire . Nadir graduated from the Saint Joseph Girls College in Istanbul's Bebek district .

She began writing poems and short stories for the Servet-i Fünûn - Uyanış and Yarımay magazines . Her first novels followed in the magazines Yedigün , Aydabir and Hayat .

Kerime Nadir wrote her novels in the tradition of sentimentalistic literature, which began in the early 20th century with Güzide Sabri Aygün's novel منوّر ( Münevver ).

The protagonists in her novels were always ideal characters: the heroes of the novel were good-looking and successful, the heroines of the novel were beautiful and virtuous. Conflicts arose because of class differences or because of the different values in town and country. Women in Kerime Nadir's novels attracted the heroes of the novel because of their beauty and virtue, which their competitors lacked. For marketing reasons, Kerime Nadir and Muazzez Tahsin's books had a certain eye-catching look that she attributed to Kerime Nadir and Muazzez Tahsin on bookshelves : on the book cover there was a young woman alone or with a young man in pastel colors. Then there was the catchy and dramatic book title such as B. Son Hıçkırık (The Last Sob).

In an interview, she explained why she had chosen romance novels as follows: What impresses her most in life and encourages her to write is infidelity, egoism and people's lack of empathy when it comes to love.

Despite its great success, Nadir's style was often criticized as unliterary by other Turkish writers of the day .

Her 1950 novel Posta güvercini (The Carrier Pigeon) was translated into French. She wrote more than 40 novels with more than 200 editions, which together sold more than 5 million copies. Her books are still being reprinted today.

Many of her novels have been made into films, some several times. Nadir wrote the script himself for many of the film adaptations. In the film adaptations of the 1950s, the main roles played u. a. Muhterem Nur , Kenan Pars , Belgin Doruk , Göksel Arsoy . In the film adaptations of the 1960s and 1970s, the main roles mostly played Türkân Şoray , Ediz Hun , Kartal Tibet , Hülya Koçyiğit , Filiz Akın . A title song of the same name was composed for many of the film adaptations, B. Funda sung by Suat Sayın and Bora Dinletir, Samanyolu sung by Berkant , Seven Ne Yapmaz sung by Esin Engin, Zambaklar Açarken sung by Erol Büyükburç , Dert Bende sung by Kamuran Akkor and Ajda Pekkan and composed by Orhan Gencebay . One of her most successful novels, Samanyolu (The Milky Way), was last made into a film for the third time in 2009 after the films made in 1959 and 1967.
