Kerli (born February 7, 1987 in Elva , Estonian SSR ; full name Kerli Kõiv ) is an Estonian singer .

Career

She became known in 2004 with her appearance at Eurolaul , the Estonian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2004 , in which she reached second place. In 2002 she won the talent show Fizz Superstar , the Estonian version of Deutschland sucht den Superstar . In 2003 she also took part in the Swedish preliminary round Melodifestivalen .

In 2006 she got a recording deal with Island Def Jam Music Group . A year later a first EP with the title Kerli was released and in 2008 their debut album Love Is Dead not only in their homeland, but also in the USA. It topped the sales charts in Estonia and reached number two on the Heatseeker charts in the United States, eventually making it into the official Billboard Top 200 in late July . Her song Bulletproof from her album Love Is Dead appeared in the film Punisher: War Zone and also on its soundtrack. In 2010, she and Tokio Hotel recorded the song Strange for the soundtrack to Tim Burton's film adaptation of Alice in Wonderland . The song Creepshow is also part of the soundtrack of the video game Burnout Paradise .

In 2010 she was awarded the European Border Breakers Award (EBBA). In 2017 she again took part in the Estonian ESC preliminary round Eesti Laul 2017 with the title Spirit Animal , where she took second place.
