Kesselklippe (Schierke)

The Kesselklippe is a rock formation in the Harz low mountain range near Schierke in the Harz district of Saxony-Anhalt . There is also a cauldron cliff on the neighboring Königsberg to the northwest .

Geographical location

The Kesselklippe is located in the Harz National Park north above Schierke, a district of Wernigerode , on the southwest flank of the Erdbeerkopf ( 847.7  m above sea  level ). In the forest it is located in the area of ​​the 650 m height line ; 150 m northeast of the cliff is a forest path at an altitude of 664.2  m .

Transport links and hiking

Brockenstrasse (initially called Hagenstrasse ) leads through Schierke, which is located at the Kesselklippe, as part of Kreisstrasse  1356 . From this road or the cliff-close at the Brockenbahn located station Schierke can visit the cliff. A little south of the cliff, a hiking trail runs along the northern edge of Schierke. A signposted hiking trail leads to the cliff north of the Schierker Hermann-Löns-Weg. The Neuer Weg hiking trail from Schierke to the old bobsled run runs north of the cliff .
