Kevin Eugene Hartman (born May 25, 1974 in Athens, Ohio ) is a former American football goalkeeper .
He holds the record for most games played in Major League Soccer .
Career
Youth and college
He got his first football experience at Radford High School in Radford, Virginia . He was only a substitute goalkeeper there in 1989, later his team won the title in Region IV. Hartman moved with his family to Palos Verdes in California before that . There he played for Palos Verdes High School. He also played for San Pedro FC Santos, a local club from San Pedro, California .
During this time he trained very hard. Even before school, he ran several kilometers every morning and improved his playing skills.
Hartman went to college after graduating from high school in April 1992. He played for Cal State Dominguez Hills from 1992 to 1993 and for UCLA from 1994 to 1996 .

In 1997 he was drafted by the LA Galaxy . In his first year as a rookie, he was rarely on the pitch. After his first season he was selected by the Chicago Fire in the expansion draft. LA Galaxy swapped Jorge Campos and Chris Armas for Hartman and Danny Pena with the Fires.
Kevin Hartman became number 1 in goal after Campos moved to Chicago. Until his move in 2006 he was the goalkeeper of the Galaxies. The exception was the 2001 season, where he was temporarily replaced by Matt Reiss . In 1999 he was voted the best goalkeeper in Major League Soccer. Hartman won the MLS Cup and the US Open Cup twice with the LA Galaxy.
In 2006 he moved to the Kansas City Wizards and after four years to FC Dallas . There he was voted MLS player of the month again in June 2011 at the age of 37 .
For the 2013 season, he moved to the New York Red Bulls . There he ended his career on November 21, 2013.
National team
Due to his success in Major League Soccer, Hartman played his first international game on September 8, 2000 against Jamaica . On February 10, 2006, his last game for the United States took place.
