Kevin Kwan

Kevin Kwan (* 1973 in Singapore ) is a Singaporean -American writer .

Life

Kevin Kwan comes from a distinguished and wealthy Asian family. His great-grandfather Oh Sian Guan founded Singapore's oldest bank, OCBC Bank ; his grandfather Sir Arthur Kwan Pah Chien was knighted by Queen Elizabeth . The maternal grandfather Reverend Paul Hang Sing Hon founded the Hinghwa Methodist Church . Kevin Kwan is related to actress Nancy Kwan .

He attended the English-Chinese school in Singapore. At the age of 11 he came to the USA with his parents . He studied creative writing at the University of Houston and then went to the Parsons School of Design in New York City . He worked for the magazine Martha Stewart Living , Andy Warhol's magazine Interview and the design firm M & Co by Tibor Kalman (1949-1999).

In 2000 Kwan founded his own creative studio and worked for clients such as the New York Times , the Museum of Modern Art , the Rockwell Group and Ted.com . Inspired by authors such as Michael Korda , Gore Vidal and Larry McMurtry , Kwan began to write and published his first novel Crazy Rich Asians in 2013 , which was filmed by Jon Chu at Warner Brothers . More books followed. In 2018 Time magazine voted him one of the 100 Most Influential People of the Year .
