However, because he wanted to get married, he lost his scholarship there. He finally got the chance in 1952 for the Dallas Texans to play a team in the NFL , which was disbanded after one season. After a short time in the Canadian Football League , where he met Stu Hart and this could persuade him to do so, Adkisson began wrestling. He finally succeeded when he the gimmick of the Nazis Fritz von Erich accepted and acted as a villain in the ring. In 1959, however, his first son Jack Jr. died in an electrical accident at the age of only six. Adkisson became very bitter and carried this over to his ring person and his achievements. He carried out the actions very harshly, even if agreed, which also made him a big star in Japan as a side effect. After his fourth son Kerry was born, the family moved to Dallas, Texas, where Adkisson ran the League World Class Championship Wrestling . From 1975 to 1976 he was even President of the National Wrestling Alliance . He trained his sons as wrestlers and made them the top stars of the league, he himself resigned from active action in 1982, but remained active behind the scenes. His last fight was against the young King Kong Bundy . After five of his sons were killed by 1993, Adkisson withdrew completely from the business. On September 10, 1997, he died of lung cancer and a brain tumor .
