The Haines Mountains (southwest of the center of the map) with the Keyser Nunatak |
The Keyser Nunatak is a large and 603 m high nunatak in the West Antarctic Marie Byrd Land . In the Haines Mountains of the Ford Ranges, it rises on the northern flank of the confluence of the Reynolds Glacier and the Hammond Glacier .
An initial mapping was made by scientists from the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939–1941). The United States Geological Survey mapped it based on its own surveys and aerial photographs of the United States Navy in the years from 1959 to 1965. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names renamed it in 1970 after Lieutenant Teddy Howard Keyser (1942-2016), pilot of a LC-130F at of Operation Deep Freeze 1968.
