Khalid bin Bandar bin Sultan Al Saud

Khalid bin Bandar bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud ( Arabic خالد بن بندر بن سلطان بن عبد العزيز آل سعود, DMG Ḫālid b. Bandar b. Sulṭān b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz Āl Saʿūd ; * 1977 ) is a Saudi businessman, member of the Saud dynasty and diplomat .

Khalid bin Bandar is the son of Bandar ibn Sultan . His sister Reema bint Bandar Al Saud has been ambassador to the USA since 2019, making it the country's first ever ambassador.

From 1998 to September 11, 2001 he was in a relationship with Vanessa Haydon and wanted to marry her. Shortly after September 11th, he flew back to Saudi Arabia. After September 11, phone numbers were found in the phone book of alleged al-Qaeda recruiter Abu Subaida in Pakistan that were indirectly connected to Bandar's father, October 24, 1983 to June 26, 2005 ambassador in Washington, DC , which questions raised what his father's connection to al-Qaeda was like.

In March 2011 in Oxford he married Lucy Caroline Cuthbert (born 1982), a niece of Ralph Percy, 12th Duke of Northumberland .

Education

He attended Eton College , then Pembroke College, Oxford, where he completed a degree in Oriental Studies . At the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst he completed an officer course. He then studied law and diplomacy at the Fletcher School in Massachusetts , USA.

Career

Khalid bin Bandar was employed by the Saudi Mission next to the UN headquarters in New York City. For three years he was Counselor in Washington, DC

On October 6, 2012, he was replaced by Youssef bin Ali Al Idrisi as deputy head of the Saudi General Intelligence for Intelligence Affairs.

He is the CEO of Dayım Holding, which was founded in 2006. He is also the deputy general manager of Al Hama Company, a Saudi Arabia-based retail company, and the chairman of Byblos Real Estate Development Company, based in the United Arab Emirates.

On October 16, 2017 he was accredited as ambassador in Berlin .

In connection with Saad Hariri's attempt to resign , Sigmar Gabriel characterized the behavior of the Saudi regime in Lebanon as “adventurism”, whereupon Khalid bin Bandar from Berlin was called for consultations. After Heiko Maas was appointed Foreign Minister, Khalid bin Bandar returned to Berlin. In April 2019 he became his country's ambassador to London. His successor in Berlin was Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud .
