Khouma El Hadji Babacar (born March 17, 1993 in Thiès ) is a Senegalese football player . He has been under contract with the Italian first division club US Sassuolo Calcio since 2018 and is currently on loan to US Lecce .
Career
Babacar started out in the youth of US Rail , a club in his hometown of Thiès. In 2007 he moved to Pescara Calcio in Italy . Just one year later, AC Florence signed him, outpacing other Italian Serie A clubs .
In the 2009/10 season Babacar first came to the professional team that was coached by Cesare Prandelli . On January 14, 2010, at the age of 16, he made his debut in the 3-2 win in the round of 16 of the Coppa Italia against AC Chievo Verona in the first team and celebrated a convincing debut with his important goal for the 2-2 equalizer. His first appearance in Serie A followed on February 27, 2010 in the game against Lazio . He scored his first league goal in the third game in a 3-0 win over CFC Genoa on March 20, 2010.
In the summer of 2010, Babacar signed a new five-year contract in Florence. In the following season 2010/11 he came to further missions. In particular, his decisive goal in the 119th minute of extra time in the 3rd round of the Coppa Italia against FC Empoli and his goal to lead 1-0 in the 4th round a month later consolidated his position in the team. However, after he came to only one league use in the first half of the 2011/12 season , he joined the Spanish first division club Racing Santander on loan for the duration of the second half of the season . There he made his debut on February 11, 2012 in the game against Atlético Madrid in the Primera División .
In 2012 Babacar returned to Italy. In the 2012/13 season he played on loan for Calcio Padova in Serie B , followed by a renewed loan to the second division club FC Modena in 2013/14 .
In January 2018, Babacar left Florence and switched to US Sassuolo Calcio on loan , which will take over his transfer rights entirely from Florence in the summer.
