The Kibag Holding AG , based in Zurich is in the field of building materials and construction active Swiss group of companies. It comprises 13 gravel and 22 concrete works , 17 road and civil engineering companies as well as several environmental and waste disposal companies in German-speaking Switzerland, two (Belvaux and Grandson) also in French-speaking Switzerland. In 2006 the group generated sales of 320 million Swiss francs.

Field of activity

The group of companies is mainly active in four business areas.

The building materials gravel and concrete division includes the mining of sand , gravel and rock , the processing of sand, gravel, chippings and crushed stone and the production of ready-mixed concrete and long-life mortar . The services also include ex-works sales and transshipment points, delivery to construction sites and the placing of pumpable ready-mixed concrete directly into the formwork.

The road and civil engineering division, special civil engineering, partly with equipment that is otherwise not available in Switzerland, includes mechanical earthworks , road construction and paving work , sewerage work , utility works, stream and river corrections , lakeshore design and port construction , dismantling and building pit protection , pile foundations and sheet pile wall work , pile driving work Pontoons and dredging, exploratory and purpose drilling. Kibag also provides overall services as a general and total contractor .

The area of environment and disposal includes remediation of contaminated sites , floor washing, disposal of construction waste contaminated with harmful substances , as well as concrete and gravel recycling .

The Kibag fleet includes around 80 trucks, almost all of which are equipped with a cost-oriented changing system consisting of a tipper and a concrete mixer. This allows the dispatcher more freedom or several purposes for the same truck. Under the trucks there is also a 12-axle special transporter that transports the machines from the special foundation engineering, furthermore about 150 trucks from third parties drive for Kibag every day.

In the technical services in Bäch SZ, repairs for construction machines and trucks for the regions of Aargau, Zurich, Winterthur, Eastern and Central Switzerland are scheduled and repaired. The construction companies in the cantons of Bern, Basel and Graubünden have their own technical services.

The Kibag marinas on Lake Zurich are a small, but financially strong, important part of the company that compensates for the massive price war in the construction industry. Another, financially lucrative area of activity is the acceptance of unpolluted excavated material in various gravel mining sites.

Kibag operates several Ledischiffs that transport gravel and sand from the Nuolen gravel works on Lake Zurich to the Zurich Tiefenbrunnen and Wollishofen concrete works . The largest Ledischiff “Saturn” can transport more than 200 tons of gravel and sand at the same time. During the construction boom in the 1970s, up to 900 tons (500 cubic meters) of gravel and sand were transported to the two concrete plants in Zurich every day. This gave Kibag a cost advantage over the competition. Transporting gravel by the competition by road is many times more expensive than transport by sea. The environmental benefit of sea transport is significant.

A part of the Kibag shares that is kept secret belongs to LafargeHolcim , the rest of the shares are owned by the Wassmer family from Bern.

history

The Kibag emerged in 1926 from the merger of the two at the upper Lake Zurich gravel make and excavators companies Gassmann & Co and Helbling & Cie . Both companies were among the first modern, mechanized Swiss firms in the building materials sector. In Nuolen, in 1928, Kibag mined gravel on land for the first time; later gravel works were added in central, northern and eastern Switzerland as well as in the Swiss Plateau. Like gravel extraction, concrete production also developed into the core business of the Kibag Group. At the same time, Kibag has been active in the field of civil engineering over the years and, through the acquisition of companies, has grown into a group that is active throughout Switzerland.
