Kidlat Tahimik (born October 3, 1942 in Baguio City , Benguet Province , Commonwealth of the Philippines ) is a Filipino film director , screenwriter and actor .

Life

Kidlat Tahimik ( tagalog for silent flash ) is the stage name of Eric de Guia , whose films of the third cinema movement are counted for his criticism of neo-colonialism . Baguio City was known as a summer residence in his youth and life there was shaped by some US military bases .

Tahimik studied from 1968 to 1972 at the University of the Philippines , where he became a member of the student council and a member of the student association Upsilon Sigma Phi . He then went to the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania . There he graduated with a Master of Business Administration . From 1968 to 1972 he worked in Paris for the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

In Europe, Tahimik met the German filmmaker Werner Herzog , who, together with Francis Ford Coppola and his New York studio Zoetrope in Manhattan, ensured that his first film Mababangon bangungot (Perfumed Nightmare) from 1977 became known to the public has been.

Tahimik's last film Balikbayan # 1 Memories of Overdevelopment Redux III was shown at the 2015 Berlin Film Festival and was awarded the Caligari Film Prize.

The film director is married to the German artist and author Katrin de Guia and lives with her and their children in his hometown.
