Alice Prin
Alice Ernestine Prin , called Kiki vom Montparnasse or Kiki (born October 2, 1901 in Châtillon-sur-Seine , Côte-d'Or , Burgundy ; † April 29, 1953 in Sanary-sur-Mer , Var ), was a French singer , Actress , model and painter .
Life
Alice Prin was born out of wedlock and raised in great poverty by her grandmother. At the age of twelve she was sent to Paris for training and at the age of fourteen she was a nude model for sculptors . She got to know the lively artist scene in Montparnasse and made friends with, among others, Cocteau , Arno Breker and Hemingway . At the age of 28 she was named Queen Montparnasse by them. Her life was very dissolute and marked by excessive nightlife and festivals. She left Paris during the German occupation and never returned. In 1953 she died impoverished as a result of her drug and alcohol addiction.
Act
In 1921, Prin became the partner and preferred model of Man Ray , who said her body was "flawless" from head to toe. She adopted the stage name "Kiki". Man Ray took numerous photographs of her, the best known is probably the photo Le Violon d'Ingres , which shows a seated woman, on whose back there are markings analogous to those of the violoncello . She became a fixture in the inner circle of the Parisian bohemian and artistic scene in the Montparnasse district. Kiki was a model for artists such as Chaim Soutine , Julien Mandel , Francis Picabia , Jean Cocteau , Arno Breker , Alexander Calder , Per Krohg , Hermine David and Pablo Gargallo . Her portrait Nu assis (Seated Nude) by Moise Kisling or the Nu couché à la toile de Jouy ( Nude lying on Toile-de-Jouy ) by Tsuguharu Foujita from 1922 are better known to this day .
Kiki von Montparnasse also devoted herself to painting, which earned her a very successful solo exhibition in 1927 at the Galerie au Sacre du Printemps in Paris. In 1929 she published her autobiography, which appeared with a foreword from her scene friends Ernest Hemingway and Tsuguharu Foujita .
