King's Quest V: Absence Makes the Heart Go Yonder! is the fifth adventure of King's Quest - series dating back to 1990 that of Sierra was published.

King's Quest V is considered to be the most innovative part since King's Quest I. Released in 1990, there was a significant increase in graphics quality (achieved through the introduction of the VGA standard) and quickly became the best-selling computer game up until then. It was also the first King's Quest part, which replaced the typing user interface with a point-and-click user interface, which was criticized by some players for allegedly making the game too easy.

The game was later released on a CD-ROM version with voice acting , which made Graham look very young and well built for his age. King's Quest V was also for the NES by Konami released.

Thanks to ScummVM , King's Quest V can be played on many other operating systems, including Linux , macOS and Windows 10 .

action

The evil wizard Mordack, brother of Manannan (who was the opponent of the player in King's Quest III ), downsizes Daventry Castle and its inhabitants and imprisons them in a bottle. Mordack threatens to feed the royal family to Manannan, who was turned into a cat in King's Quest III , unless Prince Alexander would turn him back into human form. Since King Graham went out for a walk when Mordack downsized the castle, he's the only one who wasn't caught by the spell.

title

The title of this part is a parody of the English proverb Absence makes the heart grow fonder (in German: Love grows through distance ). It is a play on words and relates to the disappearance of Graham's family and his search.

Ratings

The ASM awards the "ASM-Hit" award, only the relative brevity of the game plot is criticized, since a skilled player can play the game through within an afternoon.
