Kinloss ( Gaelic : Cinn Lois ) is a village in the Scottish council area of Moray . It is located in the northeast of the Council Area at the confluence of Kinloss Burns in Findhorn Bay , a side bay of the Moray Firth . Forres is five kilometers southwest , while Elgin is 15 kilometers east.
history
In 1150 the Scottish King David I donated the Cistercian monastery Kinloss Abbey, which is still in ruins today . In the course of the secularization of ecclesiastical goods, the lands were added to the Scottish crown possession in 1587. In 1601, Edward Bruce received a royal charter to establish a Kinloss baronate . Four years later he was raised to Lord Kinloss . In 1634 Kinloss was sold to the Brodie clan . Stone material from the monastery was removed and used for the construction of Inverness Castle , among others .
In 1809 the nearby mansion Grange Hall was completed. In 1939, the RAF Kinloss military airfield was built, the facilities of which are now operated as Kinloss Barracks .

The A96 from Aberdeen to Inverness runs around one kilometer south . The A940 leading to Dava is also accessible in nearby Forres .
In 1858 Kinloss got its own station along the Inverness and Aberdeen Junction Railway . In May 1965 the passenger and in November of the following year also the goods operation was stopped. The Inverness Airport is located around 30 kilometers west.
