history
When the Twin Cities expanded into Wisconsin in the 1860s, many landowners decided to protect the scenic beauty at the mouth of the Kinnickinnic River. Three families then sold a total of 182 acres to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to create a new state park. After the state park was established in 1972, volunteers planted more than 20,000 trees and laid out over 10.5 km of hiking trails .
fauna
Weymouth pine trees line the banks of the Kinnickinnic River . In addition to the trout , more than 140 different bird species live during the bird migration , such as B. Waterfowl , in and on the river. In the summer months the number drops to 85 to 90 (especially pheasants and partridges ). Bald eagles can also be found in the winter months .
There are also various types of mammals such as white-tailed deer , raccoons , mink , red and gray foxes , squirrels , rabbits , weasels and beavers .
