Rock Island State Park is a 369-acre state park in Wisconsin .
It is located on Rock Island , off the northern tip of the Door Peninsula , in Lake Michigan .
The only public access is with the passenger ferry "Karfi" from Washington Island to the state park. But there is also a landing stage that can be approached with your own boat. In winter, the island can be reached by snowmobile or on foot.
It is forbidden for visitors to bring so-called "wheeled vehicles" (cars, bicycles, etc.).
The stone Viking boathouse is one of the attractions on the island. Other attractions include the works of the inventor Chester H. Thordarson , artefacts of the indigenous people, and the Potawatomi Lighthouse , Wisconsin's oldest lighthouse. The island is a popular destination for deer hunters in the fall, as well as snowmobilers in winter, who head for the island from nearby Washington Island. The state park is frequented by day tourists. But there are also camping opportunities.
