Kip Warren Colvey II (born March 15, 1994 in Līhuʻe ) is a former New Zealand football player who was mostly used as a defender .
Career
Youth and amateur football
Colvey was born in Hawaii but grew up in the Marlborough Sounds , New Zealand . He attended Nelson College and also played for his university's soccer team. He then moved to Christchurch and attended the Asia-Pacific Football Academy there .
In 2012 he moved back to the US and studied at California Polytechnic State University for four years . At the same time he also played two years in the Premier Development League for Ventura County Fusion .
Club career
Colvey was chosen as the eighth pick (49th overall) in the third round of the 2016 MLS SuperDrafts by the San José Earthquakes . There he signed a professional contract on March 4, 2016. He made his competitive debut on March 13, 2016 against the Portland Timbers . Because of his good performance in this game, he was named "Rookie of the Week".
After the 2017 season, Colvey did not get a new contract with San José and was selected in the Waiver Draft by the Colorado Rapids , in which his former national coach Anthony Hudson held the coaching post.
After he had started three appearances in the early stages of the season, he was no longer considered in the further course of the season and was awarded to the United Soccer League to the Colorado Springs Switchbacks in June 2018 . At the end of the season, the Colorado Rapids waived an extension of the contract and Colvey then announced his retirement from professional football.
National team
On May 12, 2016 Colvey was named to the national team for the 2016 Oceania Cup . After he was used there in all 5 games, he won the Oceania Championship with the national team.
When FIFA Confederations Cup 2017 in Russia he came in the preliminary round at the 0: 2 defeat against the hosts to its single use, in November 2017 he was also in the two play-off matches of the World Cup qualifiers against Peru with when they missed the final round due to a 2-0 defeat in the second leg in Peru.
