Līhuʻe ( liːhuʔe , German also Lihue or Lihu'e ) is the capital of the island of Kauaʻi and the administrative seat of Kauai County .
In the year 2007 there were 6,101 inhabitants. The port is located in Nāwiliwili Bay southeast of the city. Most people achieve Lihue on the airport Lihue and the airport in Princeville .
The Kauaʻi Museum is located in Līhuʻe and provides information about the extensive history of the island.

history
Until the 18th century Lihuʻe was a small village. The name is derived from the cold winds that blow here. The earlier name Ka-laʻ-ia-mea indicates a reddish-brown soil. In the 18th century, Līhuʻe grew by growing sugar and building a large sugar factory . A large number of German emigrants settled in Līhuʻe and founded the first Lutheran church in Hawaii in 1881 . Church services were also held in German until the 1960s. In the 1930s, George Norton Wilcox became the largest sugar plantation owner .
