Einhausen Church

The Einhausen church is on Ernst-Thälmann-Strasse in Einhausen , a municipality in the Schmalkalden-Meiningen district in southern Thuringia . The parish of Einhausen belongs to the Meiningen parish of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

history

Little is known about the origin of the first church. The gate tower dates from the 12th century. Remains of the stone hinges and two fighters in the archway are still there. In the 12./13. In the 19th century, a bower was built from a granary and a watch tower , which was converted into a church in 1369 on the instructions of the Veßra monastery . The watch tower, which had a walkway at the top, was given a stone helmet so that it looked like a church tower . The building also served the village population as a fortified church . The further expansion stretched over several centuries. In the years 1726 to 1729, a new and larger church was built on the site of the old and dilapidated church, with the church tower and the sacristy being integrated on its west side from the previous church . It was inaugurated on October 14, 1729 in the presence of Meiningen Duke Anton Ulrich .

Building description

The rectangular hall church , covered with a gable roof , has a retracted choir tower and extensions in the northeast and southeast corners. The church tower still has the stone battlements of the former parapet and an eight-sided stone pyramid helmet . The spire was restored in 1994/95.

Furnishing

Some parts of the interior of the old church have been preserved. The lavishly painted pulpit was built around 1500. The wooden sculptures from this period, Christ and five apostles , on the sound cover are said to come from a Gothic altar . The date of origin of the baptismal font is set around 1600. In 1994 remains of Gothic frescoes were uncovered in the chancel.
