Church of Satemin

The Church of Satemin is a church in the village of Satemin , a district of the city of Lüchow in the Lüchow-Dannenberg district in Lower Saxony . It was built in the 14th century from field stones , which determine the appearance of the church despite a later extension made of bricks .

location

The church is south of the village center. Satemin used to be a round village in Wendland , which burned down almost completely in 1850 and was rebuilt in a different structure.

history

A pastor was first mentioned in Satemin in 1313 , namely dominus Gevehardus plebanus in Zatemin . The church, originally made of field stone, was later extended to the east with bricks.

architecture

Church window

The church has a steeple made of field stones in the west , which is provided with a supporting pillar and the pyramid roof is covered with reddish roof tiles. The tower floor plan is almost square and the horizontal wall end is approximately at the same height as the roof ridge of the nave . The east gable of the church is structured by blind arcades, as they are typical of the brick Gothic. Almost half of the masonry is made of brick . All window edges and other edges as well as large areas near the corners of the wall are entirely made of brick. The interior of the church is covered with a flat barrel vault. The windows of the bell storey have pointed arches and segmental arches below.

Furnishing

Inside the church there is a bell from 1478. The inscription on the bell reads Maria hit ik / den levendighen rop ik / den doden bewene ik / hans Sehorst got mik / anno LXXVIII (Maria is my name / the living I call / den I cry for the dead / Hans Sehorst poured me).

The organ from Furtwängler & Hammer in Hanover has a mechanical cone shop and was built in 1894. To the right of the altar is a 15th century statue of Sebastian . The baptismal font dating back to 1655 is a foundation of patronage family Dannenberg . The baptismal angel , believed to be lost, was found during renovations of an old bakery next to the church. The heavily damaged angel was then thoroughly restored. Inside the church there are figures of Saints Catherine, Dorothea, Maria, Petrus, Thomas, Simon and Jacobus Maior. these are the remains of a late Gothic carved altar from the middle of the 14th century. In the years 2005 to 2008 the church was renovated inside and outside.
