The Church of the Transfer of the Relics of St. Nicholas ( Serbian : Црква преноса моштију Светог оца Николаја, Crkva prenosa moštiju Svetog oca Nikolaja) in the small town of Mačvanska Mitrovica in northern Serbia is a Serbian church .

The church, built in the 1930s, belongs to the parish Mačvanska Mitrovica in the Mačva deanery of the Šabac eparchy of the Serbian Orthodox Church. The church is dedicated to the transfer of the relics of St. Nicholas .

location

The church is located in the center of the northern Serbian town of Mačvanska Mitrovica. The church stands almost directly on the bank of the Save , a right tributary of the Danube . It is on Mačvanski Kej Street .

There is a bridge near the church that connects Mačvanska Mitrovica with the town of Sremska Mitrovica , which lies directly on the other bank of the Sava . There is a restaurant and a bakery near the church .

The iconostasis of the church

In the 2nd century there was a church dedicated to St. Irinej on the town's territory . This church was destroyed and renewed four times, nothing more is known about the church. The church was built from 1936 to 1939. On May 22, 1939, the church was consecrated by the then bishop of the then eparchy Šabac - Valjevo Simeon (Stanković).

The priest of the church was Nikola P. Marković . He was born in the town in 1879 and died in Šabac on June 27, 1944. The current priest of the Mačvanska Mitrovica Church is Dragiša Stefanović. With his appointment as a priest, Mačvanska Mitrovica became an independent parish.

The church is a three-cone choir and built in the style of the Morava school . The large dome in the middle of the nave is striking , which is characteristic of this church style of medieval Serbia. The small church tower is built onto the west facade of the church. Inside there are typical Byzantine frescoes and an iconostasis with icons .
