Baaßen fortified church
The Kirchenburg Baaßen is an Evangelical Lutheran church in Baaßen (Bazna) in Transylvania .
A first church was built in the 13th century, elements of the previous Romanesque building can still be seen in the west portal and in the choir . In the 14th century the church was rebuilt in the Gothic style. Because of the threat from the Turks, the church was expanded into a fortified church with fortifications at the beginning of the 16th century . It was converted into a hall church and received a three-story choir. A spiral staircase which is fortified tower above the choir reached.
The church is surrounded by a high curtain wall and has a gate tower with outbuildings. The gate tower closes at the top with a wooden battlement and was equipped with iron-studded wooden gates and portcullis . There used to be two more towers in front of the curtain wall. The current equipment of the church consists of a baroque altar , pulpit and organ .
