Kirstingshof is part of the Krayenberg community in the Wartburg district in Thuringia .

location

In the Werra Valley , across from the core community of Dorndorf, are the parts of the settlement called Unterer and Oberer Kirstingshof on the southern edge of the Frauenseer Forest . The district is reached via the federal road 84 . North of the Upper Kirstingshof, the wooded Hohe Wart mountain marks the northern boundary of the district and at the same time forms the highest elevation of Kirstingshof, its height is 400.9  m above sea level. NN .

history

A high medieval pottery workshop discovered near the upper Kirstingshof is seen in connection with the Carolingian goods complex in the villa dorndorf . But it was not until May 1, 1339 that a “Kirstingshof” farm was first mentioned in a document. He belonged to the office of Krayenberg .

In the Middle Ages, two old road routes led past the courtyards, the western route is known as "hoha strazza" and led from Vacha past the jury oak to Berka / Werra , the second connected Vacha with the Frauensee monastery and continued towards Marksuhl and Eisenach . As a sign of Dorndorf jurisdiction, there was a place of execution at the upper Kirstingshof - the executioner's oak - a natural monument since 1986. The stately tree veteran is said to be over 600 years old, his trunk circumference, measured at a height of about 1.20 m above ground, is 6.83 m, the tree height is about 22 m.

The Upper Kirstingshof (2011)

In the village of Unterer Kirstingshof one encounters the buildings of a former border company that was used in the border section Vacha- Vitzeroda . After 1990, a dozen single-family houses were built on Untere Kirstingshof. At the confluence of the local road is the building complex of the Lower Kirstingshof, which was probably built in the 1930s in clinker construction.

From 1994 on, Kirstingshof belonged to the Dorndorf community, and in 2013 it became part of the Krayenberg community.

Natural monuments

The striking 550 to 600 year old hangman's oak at the upper Kirstingshof was designated as a natural monument in 1986 . Previously convicts were hanged on her. The approx. 700 year old Kirsting oak in the Kirschengrund is also a natural monument. The pedunculate oak has a burned, hollow trunk and was placed under protection in 1994.
