Kivimetsän Druidi (German Druid des Steinwald ) was a Finnish metal band from Kouvola . She played folk metal interspersed with symphonic elements .

history

Kivimetsän Druidi was founded in 2002 by the brothers Antti and Joni Koskinen. Strongly influenced by the band Moonsorrow and their then current album Voimasta ja kunniasta , the two began to write their own songs. Both the band name and the content of their songs are based on a fantasy novel that Joni Koskinen worked on. This deals with the fictional land of the crystal mountain and the stone forest. In 2003 the brothers recorded their first demo with Kristallivuoren Maa (German Das Land des Kristallberg ) , in which the texts were still entirely written in Finnish .

In the course of 2004 a line-up was put together with Antti Rinkinen, Lukas Pearsall, Jani Rämä, Jouni Riihelä and finally Annika Laaksonen, with which the first appearances could be made. In December the group recorded their first demo EP in the Carelian Corner Studio, Taival (German Die Reise ), which earned them some good reviews. The song Veljet (German The Brothers ) was also published on compilations from two metal magazines. In November 2005 Jani Rämä moved backstage as a technician and was replaced by Ville Ryöti as the new drummer.

With Mustan Valtikan Aika (German Die Zeit des Schwarzen Zepters ) the next EP was released in January 2006, which also received good reviews. Further appearances followed, including in the opening act for Korpiklaani . In the same year the band had to find a replacement for Jouni Riihelä and Annika Laaksonen. In early 2007, Kivimetsän Druidi went back to the studio and recorded a new EP, with the songs on The New Chapter also being in English for the first time. Further lineup changes followed and finally in August 2007 the band received an offer from Korpiklaani to accompany them on their European tour, which took them through 14 countries with 20 gigs the following autumn. After their return, the next demo EP Taottu was created in November . This brought them a record deal with Century Media . Kivimetsän Druidi's debut album was recorded at Noise Camp Studio in Turku in early June .

Shadowheart was released on October 17th, 2008. The first reviews were rather average. The solid production and the approaches were praised, but it would be too clearly recognizable that Kivimetsän Druidi was influenced by bands like Finntroll , Turisas , Moonsorrow, Ensiferum , Battlelore and Korpiklaani, because of the lack of independence and the lack of own ideas nothing new was created and the hits provided by the other bands would also be missing. The following year Kivimetsän Druidi appeared for the first time in the USA as part of the Heathenfest America , together with Eluveitie , Belphegor , Alestorm and Vreid .

On April 23, 2010, their second album Betrayal, Justice, Revenge came out under Century Media. The songs are partly similar to those of the Finnish band Nightwish . Opinions about this album are divided among the critics, as the development of the band can be viewed both positively and negatively. The songs are now mainly sung by Leeni-Maria Hovila, so that the voice of frontman Joni Koskinen fades into the background or does not appear at all. On the other hand, keyboardist Antti Koskinen now takes on the melodic task, with the electric guitar only accompanying the music with endless riffs .

In November 2010 the band announced that they would play next to Korpiklaani, Moonsorrow and Unleashed at the upcoming Paganfest in March next year . For spring 2015 further appearances and a new EP have been announced. In 2016, Kivimetsän Druidi released The Lost Captains , an EP with three songs.

In August 2017, the band announced their breakup.
