history

The area of the Klagenfurter Hütte was leased by the Section in 1894 and the hut itself opened on September 16, 1906. In 1933 there was an expansion. On May 18, 1943, it was burned down by partisans . After the war, it was reopened in 1952 after three years of construction.

Ascent

The Klagenfurter Hütte cannot be reached directly by car. Usually one climbs up from the Johannsenruhe car park (approx. 1200  m altitude) in the Bärental (approach via Feistritz in the Rosental ) to the hut in just under two hours. Experienced people need about an hour. An alternative to the unpaved path is the ascent from Gasthof Stouhütte (parking lot), which takes an hour more.

In addition, you can ascend from the Bodental via the steep "Stinzesteig" in 2½ hours to the Klagenfurter Hütte. From Slovenia one would u. a. choose the route over the Prešernova Koča (“Preschern Hut”).

The Klagenfurter Hütte can also be reached by mountain bike via an explicitly signposted route. The arduous journey is only recommended for cyclists in good physical condition. If you start in Feistritz in the Rosental, you have to cover a good 1,100 meters in altitude and a distance of around 12 km. The steepest parts are at the end.

Tours

A selection of many mountain tours for which the Klagenfurter Hütte is a start and end point:

  • Hochstuhl , the “King of the Karawanken”, can be reached via a normal path (walking time: 2½ hours) and a well-supervised via ferrata. It takes about 30 to 45 minutes to walk from the Klagenfurter Hütte to the via ferrata. The via ferrata itself is relatively easy ( level of difficulty B / C ) to climb , but it takes a lot of time: Overall, it takes about 3 to 3½ hours to walk from the Klagenfurter Hütte to the top of the high chair.
  • Kosiak , the local mountain of the Klagenfurter Hütte, can be easily reached via the Franz-Zopp-Weg in about an hour over grassy slopes. The Franz-Zopp-Weg is a circular route.
  • Bielschitza , a short ascent of about an hour to the Bielschitza saddle, and then about 20 minutes to the Bielschitza summit. Not difficult , only a short exposed point in the summit area.
  • The Vertatscha can also be reached via the Bielschitza saddle, but instead of going west to the high chair, you go south-east.

In winter the region is the destination of numerous ski touring and snowshoeing enthusiasts. Usually you start here at the Stouhütte, because the path to Johannsenruhe is hardly passable. The Kosiak in particular is a popular winter mountain.
