The 1948/49 season was the second season of Class B as the second highest Soviet ice hockey league .

mode

The 12 teams in Class B were initially divided into two groups. With seven teams, the center zone had two more participants than the east zone with five teams. Each team played in a home and away match against each group opponent, which is why the teams in the center zone played 12 games each and the teams in the east zone played 8 games each. The top two teams in each group qualified for the final tournament, the top three teams in the Klass A rose up. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
