Klaus Buckup

Klaus Buckup (born July 26, 1945 in Erlangen ; † August 17, 2010 in Bochum ) was a German orthopedic surgeon and trauma surgeon .

Live and act

Klaus Buckup studied medicine at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . In 1976 he was approved and in 1978 he received his doctorate from the University of Münster . He completed his internship at the Martin Luther Hospital in Bochum . He completed his advanced training as a specialist in orthopedics and trauma surgery and acquired the sub-specializations “special orthopedic surgery” and “pediatric orthopedics”. In 1981/1982 Klaus Buckup received a scholarship from the Working Group for Osteosynthesis . In this context he worked in Basel , Bern and with Robert B. Salter at the Sick Children's Hospital in Toronto .

In Dietrich Tönnies' team he accompanied the development of the triple pelvic osteotomy for the treatment of hip dysplasia . In doing so, he gained extensive experience in this area, both in childhood and adulthood.

Until his death, Buckup was the senior physician at the Orthopedic Clinic at the Dortmund Clinic under Bernd-Dietrich Katthagen . Hip and knee surgery was a particular focus. In the doctor ranking of Focus magazine , Buckup was mentioned as one of Germany's leading knee surgeons.

He has published many articles on surgical interventions on the knee and hip joint. In addition to his extensive national and international lectures on hip and knee surgeries, Buckup has led seminars on clinical examination standards and operative indications of diseases of the hip and knee joint for many years . In addition, he was an expert on liability issues and on co-assessments of operating theater standards and indications.

In terms of professional policy, Klaus Buckup was involved in the Westphalia-Lippe Medical Association for many years and worked there on various committees. He was a member of the working group for quality assurance in the health sector in North Rhine-Westphalia , was a member of various specialist societies and has been active in the Marburger Bund since August 1978 .

Klaus Buckup died in Bochum in August 2010 at the age of 65.

Awards

The 4th German edition of the monograph “Clinical Tests on Bones, Joints and Muscles” was awarded the Carl Rabl Prize for the most outstanding monograph 2009/2010. The second English edition was published in 2008. The book has been translated into six other languages.
