Life

After finishing school in his homeland on the Lower Rhine , Klaus Eberhard studied physics from 1960 with a specialization in nuclear physics at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . In 1968 he was able to complete his doctorate at the Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics in Heidelberg . He then went to Florida State University in Tallahassee / USA as a research associate for two years . As part of the repatriation program of German scientists from abroad, sponsored and invited by the then Foreign Minister Willy Brandt , Eberhard came to the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich in 1970, to which he remained loyal for 35 years. Here he was appointed professor in 1980 and taught at the Faculty of Physics until his retirement in 2005. In 1974 and 1975 he had meanwhile taken on a visiting professorship at the University of Washington in Seattle . After his retirement he moved his residence and work to Leipzig. Here he gave a lecture on the topic of the uranium association - Heisenberg and the atomic bomb at the local university in 2013 on the topic of war and peace in the lecture series Studium universale .

Shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall , he got involved in Leipzig in addition to his Munich obligations, took over a building in need of renovation in Hedwigstrasse in the Neustadt district and decided to convert it into a hotel. In 1992 his gallery Hotel Leipziger Hof was opened. He realized his desire to make works from the Leipzig School and the New Leipzig School known with the collection of pictures from the time of the fall of the Berlin Wall, mainly by Leipzig artists. Paintings in his collection are now achieving top prices on international art markets. An original hangs in each of the guest rooms in his hotel. In 2012 he presented his diary of a Leipzig art collector in a book presentation, Guest at Mattheuer and Rauch .

collection

His art collection is located in the Galerie Hotel Leipziger Hof. The collection now shows over 500 works. In addition to the art collection, there is its own gallery (galerie.leipziger-schule) and the graphic cabinet. In constantly changing gallery exhibitions, Leipzig artists are also presented by Klaus Eberhard who are not yet known internationally. The Leipzig painter and graphic artist Michael Triegel , now known as the Pope painter , was given the opportunity to present his works for the first time in an exhibition in his gallery hotel in 1996.
