Klaus Fetting (born October 22, 1938 ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

Fetting played in the youth of Rot-Weiss Essen before moving to the seniors in 1957. The defensive player made his debut under coach Willi Multhaup in the 1959/60 season in what was then the first-class football league West . The eleven from Bergeborbeck finished sixth and the old master players Fritz Herkenrath , Heinz Wewers , Willi Vordenbäum and Franz Islacker were still in action. In his second league year, 1960/61, RWE rose to the second division west. Fetting had scored two goals in 29 league appearances alongside newcomer Otto Rehhagel . It followed in the old league system two years in the 2nd League West, where Fetting completed a total of 46 competitive games and scored three goals. With the start of the Bundesliga in the 1963/64 season, the Red-Whites played their round matches in the Regionalliga West from Hafenstrasse. Fetting was used in all 38 league games under coach Fred Harthaus and striker Ekkehard Feigenspan scored 20 goals in 37 games. Fetting celebrated his greatest sporting success in the 1965/66 season when he and his teammates - Hermann Roß , Adolf Steinig , Werner Kik , Manfred Frankowski , Hans Dörre , Herbert Weinberg , Willi Koslowski , Helmut Littek , Heinz-Dieter Hasebrink , Willi Lippens , Ekkehard Feigenspan - achieved promotion from the regional league to the Bundesliga under coach Fritz Pliska . He had contributed to the runner-up in the Western Regionalliga in 31 games (1 goal) and in the successful promotion round against FC St. Pauli, 1. FC Saarbrücken and FC Schweinfurt 05, he had played all six games.

In the Bundesliga season 1966/67 the newcomers Peter Dietrich and Heinz Simmet came to Essen as newcomers, but RWE came in last at the end of the round and was relegated straight back to the regional league. Fetting made 28 appearances in the Bundesliga. Immediately under the newcomer Erich Ribbeck as a runner-up in the regional league, he made it into the Bundesliga promotion round in 1968 . Fetting had played in all 34 league games and played seven more games against rivals Hertha BSC, SV Alsenborn, Göttingen 05 and FC Bayern Hof in the promotion round. However, RWE only came second behind the promoted Hertha BSC. In the 1968/69 season he was still a member of the team, but was no longer used. He ended his career in the summer of 1969.
