Klaus Kotai

Klaus Kotai (* 1962 in Vienna ) is an Austrian techno musician, record label and club operator.

Life

Klaus Kotai has been active in the Munich techno scene since the early 1990s, where he worked with Tommi Eckart (later founder of 2raumwohnung ). 1991 appeared with Susi's Daydream the first single to Peter Wachas record label Disko B . The record was co-produced by Tommi Eckart, Peter Wacha and DJ Hell .

In 1994 he moved to Berlin and founded the minimal techno record label Elektro Music Department (EMD) with Gabriele “Mo” Loschelder and the Swiss video artist Daniel Pflumm . Kotai and Loschelder produced two albums, four 12 "s and a VHS video (" New York City Loops ") as Kotai + Mo. Kotai released two more albums on EMD with Daniel Pflumm under the pseudonyms The Customers and In Hope For The Best The Birds project , a single and an album of which was released on the PAL SL label, came about with Jochen Bader and Baby Ford in 1997. Kotai also released another EP with Baby Ford on EMD in 2000 under the name Midnight Caller .

His first solo album was released in 2002 on WMF Records . For this release (with vocals), Kotai produced the pieces mostly alone. His greatest success so far was the single Sucker DJ , which was released from the album and which was best known for the Highfish Remix by Marcin Kozlowski ( The Whitest Boy Alive ) and was also licensed by the Berlin techno label Low Spirit . In the same year Kotai contributed the vocals to Pat Swayzak's Buffalo Seven on the album Dirty Dancing .

Together with Thorsten Oetken , he curated the Berlin exhibition Screendancing in 2010 , which was dedicated to the subject of video art and especially the culture of VJing and visuals by Visomat Inc, Pathfinder, Lillevan, Daniel Pflumm, Jörg X. Franzmann, monitor.automatique, JUTOJO and u- matic from 1999–2003.

Kotai lives and works in Berlin.
