Daniel Pflumm
Daniel Pflumm (* 1968 in Geneva ) is a Swiss contemporary artist who lives in Berlin .
life and work
From 1989 he studied at the Fine Arts Columbia University in New York City and at the University of the Arts in Berlin (1990–1996) as a master's student with Wolfgang Petrick .
In the first half of the 1990s, he founded the Microclub Elektro with Tilmann and Nucleus in Berlin , a mixture of bar, club and art exhibition, which is particularly popular with performances by musicians such as DJ Hell , Cristian Vogel , Robert Hood , Dave Clarke , Patrick Pulsinger and Erdem Tunakan became known. The club existed from 1992 to 1994. A light panel with the logo of the Panasonic company hung up in the club is considered to be the namesake for the band of the same name, which only traded as Pan Sonic since a warning by the company . The successor club to Elektro operated by Pflumm in Invalidenstrasse from 1995 was also called Panasonic . From 1997 to 1999 the trio ran the Init club .
Together with the musicians Klaus Kotai and Gabriele Loschelder alias Kotai + Mo , he has been running the Elektro Music Department (EMD) label since 1995 . Pflumm was primarily responsible for the visual appearance of the label and designed the record covers and music videos . Together with Klaus Kotai he released two albums on EMD under the project names The Customers and In Hope For The Best . Together with the Norwegian techno musician Stefan Mitterer ( Sex Tags ) he released three singles as Bosen .
Pflumm gained international fame through his light boxes, in which he gutted and dismantled corporate logos such as Esso , Kraft Foods , Mastercard , KLM , Microsoft or AT&T and thus transformed them into qualitatively new forms. Using computer animations and video loops , the logos were broken down into their individual structural and colored parts. With this design, Pflumm makes the absurdity of advertising messages , the interchangeability of wishes and one's own desires visible.
In 1997 he received the ars viva award from the Kulturkreis der deutschen Wirtschaft on the subject of media art. Pflumm lives and works in Berlin.
