Klaus Mühlhahn

Klaus Mühlhahn (born August 19, 1963 in Konstanz ) is a German sinologist , social and cultural scientist and, with effect from June 1, 2020, president and spokesman for the management of the private-sector Zeppelin University (ZU) in Friedrichshafen.

Life

Mühlhahn passed his Abitur at the Theresiengymnasium in Munich in 1984 . In 1993 he completed his master's degree in Sinology at the Free University of Berlin . From 1993 to 1998 he was a research assistant at the East Asian Seminar, Sinology Department, FU Berlin. In 1998 he received his doctorate in Sinology at the Free University of Berlin. The dissertation was entitled "Rule and Resistance in the ' Model Colony ' Kiautschou ". The work was awarded the Joachim Tiburtius Prize in 1999. From 1998 to 2002 he was a research assistant at the East Asian Seminar, Sinology Department at FU Berlin, and from 2002 to 2004 visiting fellow at the Center for Chinese Studies at the University of California, Berkeley .

In 2004 he was appointed Professor of Contemporary Chinese and Asian History at the Institute of History at Turku University . From 2007 to 2010 he was Professor of History and Associate Professor of East Asian Languages ​​and Cultures at Indiana University in Bloomington. In 2009 he received the John King Fairbank Prize from the American Historical Association for the book “Criminal Justice in China. A History ". Since 2010 he has been Professor of Chinese History and Culture at the Free University of Berlin and since 2014 Vice President of the Free University of Berlin .

On March 3, 2020 he was elected President and Managing Director by the Senate of Zeppelin University (ZU) in Friedrichshafen and appointed to office by the ZU Foundation, the supporting foundation of ZU. He will take up his five-year term on June 1, 2020. Mühlhahn follows Insa Sjurts .
