Klaus Müller (born January 26, 1953 in Dresden ) is a former German football player. He played for SG Dynamo Dresden and FC Karl-Marx-Stadt . Müller is a two-time GDR national player.

Athletic career

Müller grew up in the Trachenberge district of Dresden and began his football career in the youth department of the local company sports association (BSG) Motor West. He joined the SG Dynamo Dresden junior team in 1969 through FSV Lokomotive Dresden. On September 5, 1970, he completed his first international match with the GDR junior national team . In the encounter between Czechoslovakia and GDR (1-1), he was called up as a right midfielder. By 1971 he had made a total of 18 international junior matches. Then he was used in the mid-1970s four times in the junior team and three times in the B national team.

In supraregional men's football, Klaus Müller made his debut in the 1970/71 season in the second division of SG Dynamo Dresden in the second-rate league , which was his main field of activity in the following two seasons. With nine goals for SG Dynamo II 1972/73 , the future defender underlined his goal danger and attracted Walter Fritzsch's attention. For his first appearance in the league , the highest East German football class, he came towards the end of the 1972/73 season on June 9, 1973 in the 3-0 home game of Dynamos against BSG Chemie Leipzig . He was called up as a center forward and scored his first league goal with the 2-0 on his debut. By the end of the season he played another three first division games, also as a center forward, and achieved his first title by winning the GDR championship. In the 1973/74 season he played nine times in the league, the following year he was not used there. It was not until the 1975/76 season that he was able to better stage himself with 18 out of 26 possible league games, after which he had finally made the leap to becoming a regular, now in the position of left defender. In 1976, 1977 and 1978 he came to further championship titles. In 1977 he even managed the double when Dynamo won the GDR soccer cup on May 28 with Müller as a left-back with a 3-2 win over 1. FC Lok Leipzig . In the fall of 1976 he came to two appearances in the senior national team. On October 27, he was used in the game Bulgaria - GDR (0: 4) and on November 17 in the encounter GDR - Turkey (1: 1) in his home position left defender. However, since he was only called up to replace the injured Lothar Kurbjuweit , Müller was later no longer used in the national team.

In the 1978/79 season he was injured only in eight league games for use, in the following season he was completely out of the series. At the beginning of 1980 Dynamo Dresden and FC Karl-Marx-Stadt swapped players. Wolfgang Ihle came to Dresden from FCK , while Klaus Müller moved to the Karl-Marx-Städter Club. There, Müller completed 13 league games from the 15th matchday of the 1979/80 season to the 3rd matchday of the 1980/81 season. In September 1980, the swap was reversed, both players returned to their original club. Until the beginning of 1981 Müller was still on the pitch in four league games for Dynamo Dresden, after which he had to end his football career for good because of his susceptibility to injury.

Further career

From 1981 until its dissolution in the summer of 1989, Klaus Müller was the sporting director of the 2nd team at Dynamo Dresden. After reunification he worked in the insurance business in reunified Germany .
