Nowadays, Krause is deputy chairman of the Desiderius Erasmus Foundation for Alternative for Germany .
Life
Krause grew up in Bützow and Neustrelitz , where his father worked as a lawyer and notary. While fleeing from the Soviet Army, he first came to live with relatives in Schwerin and then (when the British left Schwerin) with relatives in Lübeck. There he graduated from high school in 1957 at the Katharineum in Lübeck .
From 1959 to 1961 he completed a commercial apprenticeship in the Lübeck brewery ( Lück Pils, Brauerei Heinrich Lück , Brauerei zur Walkmühle), where the Krause family was co-owners and he was to be a member of the board. He took up a degree in economics in Lübeck and Marburg, received his diploma in 1964 and obtained his doctorate. rer. pole. at Walter Hamm on the subject of “Effect of agricultural market regulations in the EEC. Shown using the example of the German brewery market ”.
At the offer of his doctoral supervisor, who was a member of the FAZ Board of Trustees, he began working as an editor in the FAZ's business department in 1966. He liked this job so much that he finally turned down his family's offer to run the brewery.
As an editor, he fought for a liberal economic order and set “independent of praise and criticism from interest groups and colleagues, market-based signs also for agricultural policy” (as his colleague Dr. Kurt Reumann put it in an article on Krause's 80th birthday). In 1984 he wrote the pamphlet for a new agricultural policy for the Kronberger Kreis , which, somewhat expanded, also appeared as a book under the title Ordinance on Waste . The then President of the Farmers' Union, Constantin Heereman von Zuydtwyck, was a frequent opposite in the engaged dispute . Krause's “unwavering firmness in principles was rewarded in 2001 with the Josef Ertl Medal , an award in memory of the former Agriculture Minister and FDP politician Ertl , which was awarded for the first time.” “Just as fearlessly, Krause fought after reunification in the business section, but also in the political part of the FAZ, for the return of expropriated property in Central Germany. ”In a feature section of the FAZ, he described the non-return of the expropriations from 1945 to 1949 by the Kohl government and the reason given for this that this was a condition the leadership of the Soviet Union under Mikhail Gorbachev, with reference to a book by political scientist Constanze Paffrath as "German Watergate".
Since 1991 Krause was responsible for the economic reporting of the FAZ. In April 1994 he also took on the role of managing director of the FAZit Foundation.
After 35 years, Krause retired in 2001 as an editor and at the end of 2003 as managing director and continues to work as a journalist, publicist and author.
In 2010 he was the first signatory of the " Stop Link Trend " campaign .
