Constantin Bonifatius Herman-Josef Antonius Maria Freiherr Heereman von Zuydtwyck (born December 17, 1931 in Münster , † July 26, 2017 on the Surenburg ) was a German farmer , forest manager and politician ( CDU ). He was President of the German Farmers' Association (1969–1997), President of the German Hunting Protection Association (1995–2003) and a member of the German Bundestag (1983–1990).

family

Constantin Heereman von Zuydtwyck came from the old Dutch noble family Heereman von Zuydtwyck . His father Theodor Freiherr Heereman von Zuydtwyck (1894–1965) was a career officer. After the early death of their mother Elisabeth, nee Freiin von dem Bongart (1900–1935), the six children were adopted by the father's eldest brother and so came to their uncle at Surenburg Castle in Hörstel-Riesenbeck . His grandfather was the central politician Clemens Heereman von Zuydwyck (1860-1918).

In 1956 he married Margarethe ("Gitty") Freiin von Wrede-Melschede (1931-2007) from a noble Catholic family from the Westphalian Willebadessen in the Warburg district. The four daughters and son Philipp Freiherr Heereman von Zuydtwyck , who is the chairman of the forest farmers' association in North Rhine-Westphalia , come from the marriage . Heereman von Zuydtwyck was a Roman Catholic denomination.

Life

Heereman attended the Aloisius College of the Jesuit Order in Bad Godesberg . The boarding school led to the premature termination of school after three and a half years with the completion of the secondary school leaving certificate. After two years of agricultural apprenticeship, he passed the assistant examination and attended the agricultural school in Soest from 1953 to 1954 . After graduating as a state-certified farmer, in 1955 he took over the management of the forestry and agricultural business of the Surenburg house of his adoptive uncle Max Freiherr Heereman and in 1960 he took over the management of the Heereman's headquarters in Münster.

From 1958 he was local farmer and chairman of the local association in Riesenbeck, from 1967 chairman of the agricultural district association Tecklenburg. Heereman was elected President of the Westphalian-Lippian Agricultural Association in 1968 and President of the German Farmers' Association the following year. He held this office until 1997. From 1979 to 1981 and from 1990 to 1992 he was President of the EU Farmers Association COPA and from 1982 to 1986 President of the World Farmers Association IFAP .

Heereman was also President of the State Hunting Association of North Rhine-Westphalia from 1976 to 2004 and President of the German Hunting Protection Association from 1995 to 2003. From 1997 to 2006 he was Vice President of the European umbrella organization FACE.

In 1964 Heereman became a member of the board and was chairman of the Westphalian riding and driving school in Münster from 1969 to 2014. From 1996 to 2012 he was a member of the presidium of the Provincial Association of Westphalian Riding and Driving Associations and from 1997 to 2005 he was a member of the presidium of the German Equestrian Association.

In 1969 he became a member of the board of directors of Landwirtschaftliche Rentenbank and was its chairman from 1974 until he left in 1998.

Heereman was Honorary Knight and Devotion Knight of the Order of Malta and Chairman of the Eastern Delegation of the sovereign Order of Malta. He was captain d. R. the Bundeswehr .

On November 11, 1972, Heereman joined the Münster Carnival Society. V. Bad spirits in 1947 . In 1976 Heereman became a knight of the order against the seriousness of the Aachen Carnival Association (AKV); In 1996 he was appointed Honorary Chancellor; In 2016 he was awarded the Jölde Hazz va Oche for his services to the Aachen Carnival.

Zuydtwyck was a member of the board of trustees of the ISHR .

politics

Constantin Heereman joined the CDU in 1957 and was also involved in local politics for over 25 years. In 1983 he prevailed against Gottfried Köster and Herbert Peuten and was nominated by 123 delegates with only 20 dissenting votes for the Bundestag candidate for the then Bundestag constituency 98 Steinfurt II .

From 1983 to 1990 he was a directly elected member of the CDU in the German Bundestag for the following terms:

He was best known in public as a representative of the farmers' association. In 1969 he replaced Edmund Rehwinkel as President of the German Farmers' Association .
