Gisbert Strotdrees

Gisbert Strotdrees (* 1960 in Harsewinkel ) is a German journalist , historian and book author .

In his book publications, he primarily deals with everyday culture, agricultural history and social history of Westphalia and Northwest Germany.

Life

Gisbert Strotdrees graduated from the Westphalian Wilhelms University of Münster and Bielefeld University with a teaching degree in history , German and pedagogy , which he completed in 1986 with the first state examination for teaching qualifications (secondary levels I and II ).

Since 1988 he has been working as an editor for the weekly newspaper for agriculture & rural life in Münster for the topics of culture, leisure, agricultural and regional history and family / social issues.

Since the appearance of farms, farmers, years of hunger. From the history of Westphalian agriculture 1890–1950 (1991), which had three editions by 1998, Strotdrees regularly publishes books, most of them in the Landwirtschaftsverlag Münster . In it he deals with different aspects of agriculture and rural society in Westphalia as well as with the history of migration in north-west Germany. He also put together the volumes of biographies, There was not only Droste. Sixty Life Pictures of Westphalian Women (1992) and A Man in Contradiction. Burghard Freiherr von Schorlemer-Alst (1995) and was involved in a documentary about Constantin Freiherr Heereman von Zuydtwyck (1997).

Together with the illustrator Gabi Cavelius, Gisbert Strotdrees published three children's books between 2001 and 2008 , which explain life in the country and modern agricultural technology in a catchy way. The first title What's humming on the farm? Agriculture technology easily explained for children (2001) was translated into English , Polish , French, Swedish and Dutch . The second title What is turning in the wind and water? - Energy from Nature (2004) has been translated into Swedish and Korean.

As editor he was involved in two illustrated books with works by Wolfgang Schiffers (1927–1999). The photographer had photographed and documented rural life and its changes over the decades.

Strotdrees has been a member of the everyday culture research commission for Westphalia since 2001 . He regularly gives lectures and has been teaching "Journalism and Science (History / Everyday Culture Research)" at the Department of History - Department of Westphalian Regional History - at the University of Münster since 2003.

Gisbert Strotdrees lives with his family in Münster.
