10th German Bundestag

The 10th German Bundestag existed between March 29, 1983 and February 18, 1987. In total, the 10th German Bundestag met in 256 sessions, with the last session taking place on December 11, 1986. The 10th Bundestag met for its constituent session on March 29th , after the 1983 Bundestag election on March 6, 1983. Willy Brandt held office as old-age president because the older MP Egon Franke had renounced the office out of consideration for investigations against him for infidelity. For Bundestag President was Rainer Barzel selected. In the evening, the 10th Bundestag elected Helmut Kohl as Federal Chancellor with 271 (+11) yes-votes, 214 (+10) no-votes and one abstention in the first ballot .

A total of 520 seats

The 10th Bundestag had a total of 498 members at the beginning and at the end of the legislative period (+22 Berlin members of the Bundestag ). The CDU / CSU had the highest share of seats with 244 (+11) seats (end: 253), followed by the SPD with 193 (+9) seats (end: 201). In addition, the FDP (34 + 1 seats) and the Greens (today Alliance 90 / The Greens ) (27 + 1 seats, in the end: 27 seats) were represented in the 10th Bundestag . Due to the resignation of MPs, there were at times a total of 4 non-attached MPs .

Presidium of the Bundestag

In the first session, Rainer Barzel was re-elected President of the Bundestag with 407 votes in favor, 88 against and 13 abstentions. One vote was invalid. Barzel resigned on October 25, 1984 on charges of involvement in the Flick affair . On November 5, 1984, Philipp Jenninger was elected as his successor.

A total of 522 legislative initiatives were introduced in the Bundestag, of which 280 are based on government proposals, 59 on Bundesrat initiatives and 183 on Bundestag initiatives. A total of 320 laws were passed and promulgated by the Bundestag during the 10th legislative period.

1. Committee of Inquiry

On May 19, 1983, the 1st Committee of Inquiry, also known as the "Flick Donation Affair Inquiry Committee", was set up. Between June 9, 1983 and March 12, 1986, 86 meetings were held.

2. Committee of Inquiry

On October 3, 1985, the 2nd Committee of Inquiry, also known as the "Counterintelligence Committee of Inquiry", was set up. Between November 28, 1985 and November 27, 1986, 32 meetings were held.

3. Committee of Inquiry

On June 5, 1986, the 3rd Committee of Inquiry, which is also known as the "New Home Committee of Inquiry", was established. Between June 18, 1986 and February 10, 1987, there were 76 meetings.

4. Committee of Inquiry

On December 10, 1986, the 4th Committee of Inquiry, known as the Submarine Plans Inquiry Committee , was set up. Between December 18, 1986 and February 16, 1987, 15 meetings were held.

Conference locations

On June 27, 1986, the 226th session of the Bundestag met for the last time in what was then the plenary hall of the Bundeshaus in Bonn , which was demolished the following year to allow for the construction of a new plenary hall . After the summer break, it then met for the first time on September 9, 1986 in the neighboring replacement plenary hall, the old waterworks , which served as an alternative accommodation until the new building was completed in the electoral period of the 12th German Bundestag 1992/93. The 10th German Bundestag was the last whose plenary sessions took place exclusively in Bonn.
