Klaus Schäfer (theologian, 1958)

Klaus Schäfer SAC (* 1958 in Betzigau ) is a German Catholic theologian , priest and author . As a Pallottine Father he wears the religious symbol SAC behind the name. His main focus is on sickness and dying care as well as grief work. He published numerous books on the subjects of breastfeeding , brain death and organ donation as well as travel reports on bicycle pilgrimages .

Live and act

After finishing school in Betzigau and Durach, Schäfer trained as an electrical mechanic and then served for twelve years as a soldier in the German Armed Forces . In 1988 he entered the order of the Pallottines and, after training and studying, was ordained a priest in 1998 . As a Pallottine , he uses the abbreviation SAC (Latin for Societas Apostolatus Catholici , German “Community of the Catholic Apostolate”) as an addition to his name in the form of a postal nominal .

In 1999 Father Schäfer was pastor in Kippenhausen in Baden-Württemberg . He then worked from September 1999 to 2014 as the clinic pastor of the Vincentius Hospital in Karlsruhe. From 2014 to 2017, Father Klaus Schäfer SAC was rector of the religious order in Bruchsal . As a hospital chaplain, he was the founder of the Karlsruhe consolation services. Since 2017 he has been a clinic pastor at the University Hospital Regensburg . He is a sought-after speaker and disputant on the topics of brain death and organ donation.
