Athletic career

As a 22-year-old Klaus Tittmann rose in 1962 with the army sports community Vorwärts Leipzig from the 2nd GDR league to the second-class GDR league . In the 1962/63 season he played all 26 GDR league games with the army team and was Leipzig's top scorer with ten goals . In the following season Tittmann completed nine league games for Vorwärts Leipzig until October 1963, in which he scored three more goals. He was then dismissed from the army and moved to the GDR league team Motor Eisenach . There he was used in the remaining 19 league games from November 1963, with his eight goals also proving his scoring risk in Eisenach . In 1964/65 Tittmann played in all 30 league games and was also the top scorer at Motor Eisenach with twelve goals. In the last series of the 1965/66 season he was back in all 15 league games and scored five goals.

At the beginning of the second half of the season, FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt brought Klaus Tittmann into its league team, in which the no longer operational striker Rolf Nieß had to be replaced. Tittmann was called up in attack in all 13 league games, but only scored twice. At the end of the season, FC Rot-Weiß had been relegated. In the 1966/67 season, Gerd Stieler, a new striker, joined the team, and coach Hans-Günter Schröder took Tittmann back into midfield. But this only played nine times in the GDR league and scored only one goal. In the new league season 1967/68 and under the new coach Martin Schwendler Tittmann played only irregularly in nine point games and remained without scoring. In addition, he was used in the GDR league team of Rot-Weiß II in seven league games, where he was able to score three goals. 1968/69 Tittmann no longer appeared in the squad of the Erfurt Oberliga team and without exception continued to play with the 2nd team in the GDR league, where he played 25 games with three goals out of 30 matches.

After Rot-Weiß Erfurt II was relegated from the GDR league in 1969, Tittmann moved to the GDR league promoted Motor Nordhausen-West . He regained a regular place there, missing only once in the 30 league games and contributed two goals to keep the league. Klaus Tittmann completed his last season in high-class football at the age of 30 in 1970/71. He only played three league games but added one more goal to his career. After retiring from leadership, he was able to look back on 22 league appearances with two goals and on 172 GDR league games with 48 goals.
