Klaus Vogel

Klaus Vogel (born December 9, 1930 in Hamburg ; † December 10, 2007 in Munich ) was a German legal scholar . He was one of the great German constitutional law teachers and was described as a doyen in the field of international tax law.

Life

Vogel studied law at the University of Hamburg . In 1955 he was in Hamburg with the work “Public economic units in private hands. The putting into service of the economic activity of private enterprises for purposes of the public administration “to the Dr. iur. PhD . In 1957 he completed his legal traineeship with the qualification for judge's office. In 1963 he completed his habilitation with the work “The spatial scope of administrative law. An investigation into the basic questions of so-called international administrative and tax law ”.

In 1964 he received a call to a professorship at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in 1966 he transferred to the Ruprecht-Karls-University of Heidelberg . From 1970 he was also a part-time judge at the Administrative Court of Baden-Württemberg .

In 1977 Vogel left Baden-Württemberg and accepted a position at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . He taught there until his retirement in 1996. Vogel was visiting professor at the Vienna University of Economics and Business and later also a member of the faculty of the postgraduate course in international tax law.

Act

Vogel's main research areas were constitutional law , police law and tax law. He was the initiator of the Munich Research Center for Foreign and International Tax Law.

Vogel was deputy chairman in 1974/75 and chairman in 1990/91 of the Association of German Constitutional Law Teachers . In this function, German reunification was the subject of academic research and constitutional political initiatives. His concerns were the constitutional form of tax law, the systematization of the financial constitution, the opening of German law to international law and the legal handling of the problem of international double taxation . Vogel has published numerous pioneering publications; he is the founder of the leading international commentary in the field of double taxation treaties.

As an international tax lawyer, Vogel received worldwide recognition.
