Klaus Weidmann

Klaus Weidmann (born December 5, 1958 in Bielefeld ) is a German television journalist and presenter .

Life and work

Klaus Weidmann studied political science, history and public law in Freiburg i.Br. and Montpellier. He did his doctorate at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg on European development policy in Africa and published numerous scientific articles on the connection between development aid and food crises. He organized and moderated international conferences on the relationship between Europe and the Third World.

In addition to his studies, Klaus Weidmann worked as a radio presenter and reporter for Südwestfunk , where he completed an internship in 1991 . Since 1992 he has been working for Südwestrundfunk as a political television journalist, mainly for ARD - until 1994 as a foreign reporter for Europamagazin , from 1994 to 1998 as editor for Report Baden-Baden , from 1998 to 2000 as head of the service at Report Mainz , from 2001 to 2005 as Head of ARD foreign Studio South America in Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro. Since then, Klaus Weidmann has worked for ARD as a television presenter, author, editor and foreign correspondent.

Since 2010 Klaus Weidmann has been part of the team of moderators at phoenix , the event and documentation channel of ARD and ZDF . There he regularly moderates the live political broadcasts phoenix on site and phoenix plus with studio guests and interlocutors on current political issues of the day. In the Phoenix Daily Talk he interviews prominent politicians and representatives of public life. In 2011/2012 he moderated the SWR Landesschau aktuell Rheinland-Pfalz .

Klaus Weidmann is the author of numerous ARD features and reports. For an ARD documentary he did interviews and a. with Michail Gorbatschow , Helmut Schmidt , Richard von Weizsäcker and Jacques Delors .

Klaus Weidmann has been a lecturer at the journalism seminar at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz since 2016 ; previously he taught television journalism at the Faculty of Media and Information Technology at the Offenburg University of Applied Sciences .
