Klaus Weiss (English studies)

Klaus Weiss (born July 22, 1927 in Oberhausen ; † December 22, 2014 in Waldkirch ) was a German English and American scholar .

Life

Klaus Weiss first studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg . He later switched to English studies with a focus on American studies . In 1960 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD. He worked at Freiburg University and completed his habilitation in 1977 with a thesis on British-American Puritanism . In 1979 he was appointed professor at the University of Freiburg. In 1992 he retired. He was a member of the Görres Society .

In 1987 he was appointed Knight of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher by Cardinal Grand Master Maximilien Cardinal de Fuerstenberg and on May 23, 1987 in St. Peter's Cathedral in Osnabrück by Franz Cardinal Hengsbach , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy, and Johannes Binkowski , Lieutenant in Germany, invested. He was a member of the German Association of the Holy Land and was involved in numerous social projects in the Holy Land . Klaus Weiss was also a member of the Freiburg Catholic Student Union KDStV Falkenstein in the CV .

He was married to Veronika geb. Burger. There are three children from the marriage.
