Geographical location

Kleinbockenheim is located in the north of the Bockenheimer municipality area on a hill in the area of the rift valley between the low mountain range and the Rhine plain . Not far to the west and north are the borders with the local community of Kindenheim as well as the Donnersbergkreis and the Alzey-Worms district . With Großbockenheim, the place has grown together structurally, so that spatial separation is no longer possible. Kleinbockenheim includes the streets Leininger Ring , Schlossweg and Schlosstreppe .

Elevations and waters

The Kieselberg extends north of the settlement area . In addition, the Kinderbach , a tributary of the Pfrimm, flows there from southwest to northeast .

history

In the Middle Ages , the Emichsburg , which was built by the Counts of the Leininger , stretched on the hilltop . During this time, the entire place, which was grouped tightly around the castle, was fortified. In 1390 the parish belonged to Simon von Bensheim and Symont Mannesson von Colne ; both owned corresponding Pfandbriefe. After several arson in the 15th and 16th centuries the Emichsburg was initially in a Renaissance - castle rebuilt in 1582, the monastic estates were the Abbey Wadgassen the Leininger sold. Kleinbockenheim belonged to the Leiningen-Dagsburg family until the end of the 18th century . Its possessions suffered major destruction during this time, so that only a few original remains have been preserved.

From 1798 to 1814, when the Palatinate was part of the French Republic (until 1804) and then part of the Napoleonic Empire , Kleinbockenheim was incorporated into the canton of Grünstadt and had its own Mairie . In 1815 the place had a total of 546 inhabitants. From 1818 to 1862 Klein-Bockenheim was - as it was spelled at the time - part of the Frankenthal Land Commissioner , which was then converted into a district office.

In 1928 the place had 722 inhabitants who lived in 142 residential buildings. Both the Catholics and the Protestants belonged to the parish of Großbockenheim at the time . In 1938 the place was incorporated into the Frankenthal district. After the Second World War , Kleinbockenheim became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone . In 1956 it was merged with the neighboring community of Großbockenheim to form the new community of Bockenheim an der Weinstrasse.

In the course of the first Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform, the place moved in 1969 to the newly created district of Bad Dürkheim. In the period that followed, the gap between Klein- and Großbockenheim became smaller and smaller because the community of Bockenheim and the community of Grünstadt-Land, which existed from 1972 to 2017, built the Emichsburg community center , the fairground and the house of the German Wine Route there .

Coat of arms of the formerly independent municipality

Justification of the coat of arms: The coat of arms goes back to a court seal attested in 1510, which, in different forms, in 1814, in 1818 with a Napoleonic hat, depicts the famous Martin scene. The representation of Martin in the seal goes back to the old parish church of Kleinbockenheims, which was dedicated to St. Martin was consecrated. A seal stamp handed down from the first half of the 19th century does not differ from this. The approval was granted on May 15, 1855 by King Maximilian II.
