The Kleine Aa (also Chli Aa) is an approximately six kilometer long tributary of Lake Sempach in the Swiss canton of Lucerne .

geography

course

The Kleine Aa rises at 580  m above sea level. M. at the Hinterfeld farm just within the Chüserainwald on the municipal boundary between Rothenburg and Neuenkirch . The source is around 190 meters from the source of the Waldbach , a right tributary of the Great Aa .

The Kleine Aa initially flows in a predominantly northern course along the edge of the forest. It passes the arable land of the Chüserainmoos in the west and the Hinderfeld in the east in a shallow ditch that is mostly occupied by wood. At the southern edge of the Scheidwäldli forest, it bends to the northwest and now runs along the municipal boundary between Neuenkirch and Rain . It flows just inside the Scheidwäldli and then emerges back out of the grove, lined with wood. It turns north and deviates from the municipal boundary for the first time. The Kleine Aa crosses the former Scheidmoos wetland near the hamlet of Scheid and bends again to the northwest. Shortly afterwards, it runs back to the municipal boundary , where the drain from the formerly large Chüserainmoos wetland flows into it from the left .

A dirt road follows, where she is overtaken for the first time. She is led into the Erlewäldli in Neuenkirchner municipality area, where she picks up the Hapferebächli from the right . It comes to the surface again and flows through the Alder Forest in a north-north-westerly direction , followed by a border of trees. The Kleine Aa reaches the hamlet of Mettenwil and, at the confluence of a small stream, curves from the right to the southwest, where it is initially accompanied by a narrow strip of forest, which continues down the stream into thick wood. It crosses under the A2 on a straightened section and then runs on the municipal boundary of Neuenkirch and Sempach .

The Kleine Aa reaches the Chuchi forest and passes the Sempach industrial area Allmend on the right bank and the Neuenkirchner hamlet Trutigen on the left bank . In the Allmend there was once the Trutigerweiher , which was fed by the Kleine Aa and is now built over. After passing under the Gotthardstrasse it goes into the Allmend forest and forms a up to around 20 meters deep ravine in which it extends entirely again in Neuenkirchstrasse in the lower portion. At the foot of the Fenerehubel ( 562  m above sea level ) at the hamlet of Gottsmännigen , it turns 90 degrees to the northwest and briefly forms the municipality boundary again. It passes a pond on the right bank and flows after a dirt road all the way into Sempach. After a short curve, you will reach the Seesatz district , which separates the Kleine Aa from the rest of Sempach.

It passes the Seeland sports complex on the left bank and finally flows into the 504  m above sea level between the seaside resort and the Swiss Ornithological Institute and parallel to the Grosse Aa, which runs a little further south . M. located Sempachersee.
