particularities Restricted military area

The Kleine Auersberg is 808  m above sea level. NN high mountain in the Bavarian part of the Rhön . It is located five kilometers southwest of the center of Wildflecken in the Bad Kissingen district on the watershed of Sinn and Kleiner Sinn .

The Kleine Auersberg is only partially forested and its summit is therefore a good vantage point. When the visibility is good, the view extends from Kreuzberg in the east, Dreistelzberg and Spessart in the southwest to the Vogelsberg in the northwest. If the visibility is very good, the skyscrapers of Frankfurt am Main and the Taunus can also be seen .

The Kleine Auersberg is located within the Wildflecken military training area, which was built in 1938 . The entire area is a restricted military area . The only chance for civilians to climb the Kleiner Auersberg is on the people's hiking days, which take place once a year on the last weekend in July. Because of the good view, one of the prescribed routes often leads to the summit. The little higher and densely forested Große Auersberg rises a good two kilometers east-northeast . Both are not to be confused with the Auersberg near Hilders in the Hessian part of the Rhön.
