The Kleine Kornigl or simply Kornigl ( Italian Cornicoletto ) is a 2311  m slm high mountain in the Ilmenkamm of the Ortler Alps . His name is a Germanized combination of the Latin cornu with the diminutive suffix -iculu and means croissant .

Location and surroundings

The Kleine Kornigl is located to the west above the Hofmahdjoch in South Tyrol ( Italy ). Its north flank belongs to the area of the Ulten community of St. Pankraz , while its south side belongs to that of the community Laurein am Deutschnonsberg . A wedge that climbs up to the summit on the east side is located in the Trentino municipality of Borgo d'Anaunia . A ridge runs to the northwest that connects the small one with the larger one, the Großer Kornigl . The latter occasionally appears as Kleiner Kornigl , as it appears significantly lower from the nearby Proveis .

rise

The normal route to the summit leads from the Clazner Alm , located south below the mountain, or from the Hofmahdjoch over, first into the Clazner Loch between Kleines Kornigl, Großem Kornigl and Schöngrubspitze and then over a very steep ascent to the ridge between Großem and Kleine Kornigl . From there, the summit cross can be reached via a partially exposed path.
