The Uhlenbach , in the upper reaches of the Kleiner Uhlenbach, is a left tributary of the Selke in the Lower Harz in Saxony-Anhalt .
course
- Upper course
The Uhlenbach is fed by a system of small and very small brooks, some of which arise from a fixed source and partly from a source area. The actual origin of the brook, initially called Kleiner Uhlenbach, is considered to be a headwaters between Friedrichsbrunner Gondelteich and Friedrichsbrunn , where two main arms form. A few hundred meters before the gondola pond, another stream flows into the Kleine Uhlenbach on the right. Shortly afterwards, this is dammed up in the upper reaches by the Friedrichsbrunn gondola pond, which it flows through, and which it leaves again flowing to the southwest. After hitting a 461 m high elevation, the brook bends almost at right angles to the southeast.
The stream continues to flow past the 469.1 m high Uhlenstein on the left . A little downstream, a stream that springs from several arms flows into the Kleine Uhlenbach. In the lower reaches this bends to the southwest. At the same time, another stream flows out and for a short distance the Kleine Uhlenbach divides into several arms, which flow together again after about half of the remaining course of the river.
- Lower course
In the vicinity of Erichsberg Castle , the Große Uhlenbach flows into a small reservoir on the right at the Forsthaus Uhlenstein , which dams the Kleiner Uhlenbach mountain stream . From here on the stream is only called Uhlenbach . This is part of the state's river program.
The stream continues to flow through the Uhlenbachtal . In the course of the Schäferbach flows into the Uhlenbach. Behind the Silberhütte station, the Uhlenbach crosses the Selketalbahn , where a fish ladder and sole slide were built. Shortly afterwards the brook flows into the Selke at Silberhütte at flow kilometer 52.0 on the left .
etymology
The name of the brook comes from the Middle High German word Ule. This is called the owl .
