Kleingarnstadt is a district of the Upper Franconian community Ebersdorf bei Coburg in the district of Coburg .

location

Kleingarnstadt is about nine kilometers southeast of Coburg . The district road CO 11 connects the place with Blumenrod and Bieberbach , the CO 13 with Großgarnstadt . Communal roads lead to Oberwasungen and Oberfüllbach . The Burkhartsberg at 423 meters is the highest point in the municipality.

history

Kleingarnstadt was first mentioned in a document in 1125. In 1225 the place name was "Garnstat minori". It probably goes back to the personal name Garo (short form of Garibert, Garibald or Garimer).

Landlords in the place were among others the monasteries Sonnefeld and Banz . In 1353, Kleingarnstadt and the Coburg Land were inherited by the Wettins and from 1485 it was part of the Electorate of Saxony , from which the Duchy of Saxony-Coburg later emerged. After the death of Duke Albrecht in 1699, Kleingarnstadt came to Saxony-Hildburghausen in 1705 as part of the Sonnefeld office . In 1826 the office of Sonnefeld came back to Saxony-Coburg in accordance with the Hildburghausen partition agreement .

Kleingarnstadt has been part of the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Großgarnstadt for centuries . The Kleingarnstadt fire brigade was founded in 1835 and has been providing fire protection and general help ever since . The schoolhouse was inaugurated in 1911 and was in operation until 1967.

In a referendum on 30 November 1919 voted 4 Kleingarnstadter citizens for the accession of the State of Coburg the Thuringian State and 50 against it. Thus, from July 1, 1920, Kleingarnstadt also belonged to the Free State of Bavaria .

Land consolidation took place from 1963 to 1971. In 1969 the company Martin Metallverarbeitung GmbH opened its first plant in Kleingarnstadt, which in 2015 has around 270 employees. After a vote on February 21 with 78 votes for Ebersdorf and 17 votes for Sonnefeld, Kleingarnstadt was incorporated into Ebersdorf near Coburg on April 1, 1971.

In 2001, as part of the village renewal, the community center and a new village well were inaugurated.
